The story of BIC

BIC’s history began in 1944. In a factory near Paris, Marcel Bich and Édouard Buffard produced components for writing instruments. Marcel Bich saw an opportunity to make the ballpoint pen more reliable, simpler and more affordable. In 1950, BIC therefore introduced the well-known BIC Cristal. BIC went on to become one of the best-known brands in writing instruments. Its recognisable design, reliable writing quality and accessible price have made BIC pens popular as everyday items and promotional products for decades.

Made and printed in Europe

Many promotional BIC pens are manufactured in Spain and France. The writing instruments are personalised at BIC’s factory in Tarragona, Spain. Production and printing within Europe reduce unnecessary transport movements and give BIC greater control over quality. The Tarragona factory also uses electricity from fully renewable sources.
